Race across the world returns: meet the unlikely teams ready to conquer 12,000km
Tonight at 8pm, the latest season of Race Across the World kicks off, promising a grueling test of endurance and human connection. This year’s lineup features five entirely new pairs embarking on a 12,000km odyssey – a journey designed to push them to their limits.
Cousins puja and roshni race for memories
Among the competitors are cousins Puja (31), a doctor, and Roshni (32), a software engineer. Puja, seeking a change after a career plateau, pursued the race for personal fulfillment, ultimately convincing Roshni to join her. “I wanted to do something purely for myself,” Puja shared. The pair, who have a strong bond, represent a compelling dynamic as they navigate the challenges of the race.
Adding a unique twist, Mark (66), a retired architect, is racing alongside his sister-in-law, Margo (59), a hypnotherapist. Their participation is deeply personal, fulfilling a final wish of Mark’s late wife, Julia, who had encouraged their renewed friendship. This pairing marks a first for the show, introducing an element of emotional weight to the competition.

Family ties and unexpected journeys
Katie (21) and Harrison (23), siblings from Manchester working in corporate roles, were unexpectedly drawn into the race. Harrison revealed their mother sent them the application link, a suggestion that initially required some convincing from Katie. “It was a joke gone too far,” Harrison admitted, yet their enthusiasm for the adventure is palpable.
Andrew (54), a geography teacher, is venturing across the globe with his daughter, Molly (23), a junior doctor. Andrew applied on a whim while Molly was preparing for finals – a decision they now describe with a mixture of excitement and disbelief. Andrew hopes to challenge perceptions of educators, demonstrating a side of himself beyond the classroom.
The youngest pair in the race are childhood friends Kush (19) and Jo (19). Kush, currently on a gap year, spotted the application on Instagram and immediately reached out to Jo, a college student from Liverpool. Their spontaneous decision to participate underscores the impulsive spirit of the competition.
Race Across the World returns April 2nd on BBC One and iPlayer. The journey is not just about distance; it's about rediscovering oneself and forging connections in the most demanding circumstances. The true test won't be navigation, but resilience.
